Location Description and History

The original Snuffer's consisted of a small one-room space that seated only 55 customers. it is located at 3526 Greenville Avenue between Martel Avenue and Longview Street in Dallas. The room was and still is furnished with tables and booths Pat made himself. Similarly, the interior of the space was constructed and finished out by Pat and three helpers. It wasn't that he was a great carpenter, he just didn't have enough money to hire professional workers. It was truly a labor of love, reflecting the commitment to hands-on involvement that exists today. The same original tables and booths are still used today in the original "Front Room".

While very little has changed at the first Snuffer's, expansion has not been neglected. The "Back Room" effectively doubled seating in 1979. Nine Years later Snuffer's Patio opened next door. As our customer count continued to validate the Snuffer's concept, room after room was added, along with an outdoor seating area. Today Snuffer's on Lower Greenville seats about 350.

The menu contained the same basic entrees that it does today: burgers, sandwiches, and the cheese-fries that are the house specialty. Snuffer's eventually caught on with the college crowd, and the restaurant expanded with the opening of the back area with a garden atmosphere.

Reported Phenomena

An unidentified ghost has been seen by guests and employees in this popular place. The phantom emerged after remodeling and usually appears in the hallway that connects the old building with the new
addition. the place has been re-modeled several times, so We'll describe the building as if you were standing at the front door. To your left is a small dining area( We'll call it the patio, because that is what it once was before they put a roof on it) and to your right is a long rectangular area with lots of booths. About mid-way through this room is a crudely cut doorway that leads through the thick wall and into the old dining room.Once you're in here, there is a hallway off towards the left (where the bathrooms are) that leads into the original bar (this is where the ghosts mostly appears).

This room is the "old building that we heard about. There is also a doorway here that connects to the alley. This was the original door into the place before the re-modeling.

These are some of the phenomena that has occurred according to Kevin and the owner of the restaurant, Bob.

1. The green hanging lamps in the old dining room start swinging in unison. Kevin says that he and other employees have tried to do this but can never get all of them to swing together. This has occurred several times, some of which were witnessed by customers.

2. Bob has seen a lady emerge from the hallway late at night after closing only to vanish several seconds later.

3. Once, long after closing, a waitress discovered a lady sitting on top of a cigarette machine next to the hallway in the old bar (it's no longer there).
Naturally, she went to get the manager, but neither one of them could find anyone after searching the place.

4. Strange "freezing" cold spots occur in the hallway and near the old doorway. Customers have often complained about the AC being on too high when seated to close to the hallway, either in the
old dining room or the old bar.

The Investigation

This one was quick and dirty. For the most part, we took readings through out the restaurant. The whole area has a big electro-magnetic field of .8 to .9 milligauss, the expected range for suspected ghost activity, but in the hallway near the bathrooms and in part of the original building, the EMF detector pegged out, not a spike mind you, I mean it hit the top of the scale and stayed there. Eventually, the shift supervisor, Kevin, started to wonder who these two guys were and what are they doing, waving this little tricorder thingee around with a perplexed look on their faces.

So he came over to inquire about our activities. After a quick explanation about EMF fields and ghosts, he began to tell us what had happened and where. He even gave me the owners name so I could call him and discuss the things that he had seen. A really cool guy, so say hi for us if any of you ever find your way over there. We found the staff to be very friendly and cooperative. The hamburgers there are very good also.

According to Bob, the restaurant (the old bar section) was once a rough "biker bar" type of place. Some lady was apparently stabbed in the hallway and managed to get outside, through the door before bleeding to death. Several years later, it was bought and connected to another cafe (the old dining room). Over the years, the remainder of the building was bought and re-modeled several times until it finally became what it is today. As with most older buildings the restaurant began having phenomena after the first re-modeling and has continued since.

Three photographs showed to have captured some thing odd once they were developed. The First was a shot of the hallway connecting the new section to the old bar. A odd mist appeared in the left of the picture. It cannot be glare from the camera because it overlaps the frame of the mirror itself. There is no way that we can think of that would cause this kind of effect on film. The photographer didn't notice anything unusual when the photograph was taken.

The Second and third photos were taken from inside the bar, looking towards the hallway that connects the old bar to the new section of the building. After talking to the Asst. manager, we learned that a old cigarette machine used to be here and since we got some interesting readings, Buck took several shots while Hitman discussed the buildings layout with the manager. From this discussion we learned that there were not any power conduits in the wall, only the pipes for the plumbing which lead to the bathrooms.
Although it is remotely possible that the running water in the pipes may have created an EMF field, it is very odd that it generated one as strong as the we measured there.
