Location Description and History

The town of Madrid was founded in 1869, but it wasn’t until the 1880’s when the Santa Fe Railroad arrived in the area, that coal mining began on a large scale. By this time, the short lived gold had played out, and most of the solitary miners gave way to larger companies who moved in to develop large coal mining operations.

Reported Phenomena

Reported sightings of various apparitions, "shadow figures" and disembodied voices.

The Investigation

We searched the area in and around the cemetery for several hours but were not able to locate anything that could be determined "paranormal". The area is really dusty, making any kind of decent photography almost impossible. Cars traveling up the road towards the cemetery often have their lights reflected in odd ways which resemble shadows moving about the graveyard. This may account for those types of sightings.
