Location Description and History

Built by the Garcia family around 1890, the last person born in this historic building was in 1951.

The building was eventually converted into a shop in the 1960's. If you look closely behind the racks of shirts on the south side of the building you can find one of the old fireplaces.

After becoming a shop, the building underwent a major renovation. It is possible that some of the interior walls were removed as the building now consists of one large room and a small bathroom.

Originally the building sat in between Casa de Armijo (the La Placita restaurant) and the old courthouse (no longer standing).

Reported Phenomena

S-1 : Alarms go off in the building for no reason. Alarm system checks out fine when inspected.

S-2 : The door chime goes off randomly and without explanation.

S-3 : The stereo behind the counter turns on and off by itself and even changes stations randomly.

S-4 : Objects fly off the racks by themselves.

S-5 : The motion detector activates on it own.

S-6 : Shirts on the pegs in this area fall down onto the floor without explanation. one employee has smelled smoke in this area briefly before it suddenly vanished.

S-7 : Feelings of an unseen presence are reported here.

The Investigation

We arrived at 6:00pm to begin the ghost hunt. After talking to the owner about the history and odd occurrences, we swept the first floor for unusual EM fields and temperature variations. Only one suspect field was located on the ground floor. It was in the southeast corner and fluctuated to 3.1 nanotesla before it disappeared completely. Photo 2 was taken towards the front of the building after this event.

After the initial sweep of the ground floor, we headed into the basement. Photo 4 was the first photo taken as we descended down the stairs.

Several more sweeps were conducted of both areas. The most interesting photograph was taken in the basement (photo 5). After looking at the photograph later, Becky was repositioned on the stairs to ensure that the effect was not caused by something else in the area (such as flare from the white walls).

The ghost hunt was concluded after taking evp samples (nothing captured) around 7:30 pm.

Initial Conclusions

Photo 5 (IR analysis)

Photo 2 (IR analysis)

Photo 4

The most interesting picture was Photo 5. The image shows a mist like phenomena that registers cold on the thermal analysis. On the IR, the object seems to be coming out of the wall on the right.

Photo 2 was taken towards the front door and shows some sort of oddity in the right portion that was not visible in the other photographs taken of this area.

Photo 4 was taken as the group headed downstairs. although it is probably an airborne contaminant, the object does lack diffraction by clearly has a cornea.
