Casa
Armijo was constructed of adobe sometime before 1880 by El Colorado
Don Juan Armijo y Maestas, and later sold to Ambrosio Armijo. It
is the classic placita (little plaza) style, developed for defense
against raiding by nomadic Native Americans.
During
the turmoil of the early settlement of Albuquerque, the the building
was used as a fort and a refuge. Later. still occupied by the Armijo
family, it was used as an early trading post.
In
1930 it was restored from a ruin to its present condition and remodeled
in conformity with its old character.
It
is also the only building in Albuquerque with an intact placita
(indoor patio). The tree growing inside the restaurant's main dining
was built around, sealing the placita and the newly formed room
from the elements.

The
Casa Armijo is haunted by at least 4 spirits, according to the present
managers of the building. The vast majority of reported phenomena seems
to occur in the women's restroom and upstairs area.

near the manager's office |
We
started this investigation by talking to the manager of the restaurant,
who informed us that the building has a variety of odd phenomena
occurring. Some of the activity is:
1. Employees and managers hear their names called by someone right
behind them. When they turn around, no one is there. They have named
this "ghost" George.
2. Women see an apparition of a young girl in the mirrors of the
women's restroom. The restroom was once a part of the girl's room
when she died of a undetermined disease in the late 1800's.
3. Several cold spots can be felt at certain times throughout various
locations in the building.
We
started upstairs in the manager's office where we found a very unusual
field near the doorway. |
Readings
were fluctuating between 4 and 7 milligauss. The field vanished after
several minutes and we could not reacquire it. The room across from this
used as a storage area and has activity associated with it as well. it
is believed that there is an unfriendly spirit there that dislikes women.
In this room we also found a field similar to the one in the manager's
office.
We
then moved downstairs to the room that is believed to be haunted by the
ghost of a eight year old girl. EVP samples were collected here and through
out other locations in the building.
Another
interesting EM event occurred in the hallway, just before the door leading
to the women's bathroom. A strong D/C field of 4 nanotesla was discovered
in the middle of the hallway, about 7 feet above the floor. We initially
believed that this field was associated with the magnets of the speakers
located near by, but after the film was developed, interesting images
were in the pictures.

At
the end of our investigation we decided to perform a test to see what
effect positive ions have on the suspect targets. Several orbs were
captured on film and IR video during the test. It appears that the
increase of positive ions seemed to excite the targets. They moved
up and down the stairs rapidly, appearing only as a "streak"
of light on the IR video camera.
Personnel
were stationed at the foot of the stairs, in the area upstairs adjacent
to the stairwell and next to the positive ion generator which was
placed half way up the staircase. EM fields fluctuated between 10
milligauss and 3 milligauss.
Photographs
taken during this event show orange colored "orbs" in
them.

Positive
Ion test, Part 1
The
first part of our test with positive ions. The lights in the video
are an IR source and cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Positive
Ion Test, Part 2
The
second half of the positive ion test conducted inside the La Placita
restaurant.
|
An
analysis of the video revels that the source of the lights visible in
the infrared spectrum seem to be originating from the fourth step from
the top of the staircase. No such lights were visible during the control
test when the positive ion generator was not used.
It
is not known at this time if the lights were a by product of the positive
ion generator or a artifact created by the video camera during the event.
Future tests of the operability of the video camera reveled it to be in
perfect working order.
