Location Description and History

This cemetery is Located on a hill outside of Cimarron, New Mexico, this very old historical cemetery is well maintained, and still in use today. Many wooden markers dating back to the days of Clay Allison and Black Jack Ketchum still survive, although they are no longer readable. There are many bare rocks marking the older graves.

The son of Davy Crockett is buried in the Cimarron cemetery, but no marker exists. It is said that Crockett's grave had a rough, wooden marker just after he was buried but that family members removed it with plans of replacing it with a more appropriate marker. But, sadly the new marker never arrived.

When Fred Lambert, son of the original builder of the St. james hotel, was still alive he said that the grave was halfway between Reverend Tolby's grave, marked by a handsome monument, and the Lambert family plot.

Reverend Tolby was shot near Clear Creek in 1875. His murder was one of the initial instigators of the Colfax County War. His body was recovered from the Canyon and buried in Cimarron's Mountain View Cemetery. Sometime over the passing years, his original headstone was broken and was replaced with a large, modern headstone which still stands today. The two pieces comprising the original headstone now rest in the first floor hallway of the St. James Hotel. Henri and Mary Lambert, the original proprietors of the St. james hotel are also buried in this cemetery.

Reported Phenomena

This was a recon investigation to verify reports of paranormal activity that occurs within the cemetery. We were led to the cemetery by to employees of the St. James hotel who had been told many different stories by the locals. The majority of them were comprised of apparitions and shadows seen lurking in the graveyard after dark.

The Investigation

The cemetery has a great deal of orb phenomena but is mostly situated near the area of Lambert's grave. Other areas of the cemetery have little or no activity. Dust is a major problem with photography at this location.
