Location Description
and History
The Tombstone Motel reputes to have an original early 20th Century adobe building as part of their structures. A few of their guest rooms are housed in these buildings, and this information appears to be accurate.
The rooms to be focused on, 119 and 121, have undergone updates. Internal walls in the adobe structure appear to be much more modern than the building itself. As the building is located on State Hwy 80, aka Fremont Street, traffic and pedestrian noise is common.
Reported Phenomena
The rooms have distinctly different phenomena reported. Room 121 is described as having a "heavier," more malevolent presence. The figure of a man, dressed in Western garb, has been described by guests and employees alike as standing in the hall leading to the bathroom, or standing over a bed while a guest sleeps. Appliances, especially the television, turn on by themselves. Guests have described to management the sensation of someone sitting on the bed next to them while they slept. In room 119, the ghost is described as "playful." Employees have mentioned it alternately as either a child or a young woman in the room, though there are no reported descriptions of this ghost. As with 121, appliances turn on seemingly without cause.
The Investigation
The team arrived at 6pm to begin setup. No interviewee was available for the evening. Immediately upon entering the rooms, the strong smell of mold was detected by all investigators. Travis described it as giving him a slight headache after about ten minutes in room 121. Baseline EMF level was taken, with large spikes of up to 12 mg occurring near and around the television, phone, and wall sockets. These spikes occurred more frequently with the Trifield Natural than the standard Trifield. The bathrooms in particular had very strong EM fields, especially near the wall sockets, with spikes around 15 mg. A number of investigators expressed concern about the building's wiring. Concerns will be relayed to the hotel management.
Teams split into three groups. Angela and Sean did some initial walk troughs with EMF detectors and a camera in room 119.
Travis and Charley did the same in room 121. Adam and Rick filmed and discussed potential electrical interference caused by fuse boxes and the like in the alley between buildings. Sometime during this phase, Angela and Sean heard a series of bumps and shouting that appeared to coming from the adjoining wall with room 121. They assumed these noises were being caused by another investigator and dismissed them.
Teams then merged into groups of three, with Adam, Rick, and Sean in room 119 working on EVP. Angela, Travis, and Charley worked on EVP in room 121. The groups had to pause at one point due to outside noises (a holiday parade was being conducted on Allen Street, complete with someone making announcements over a bullhorn that could be heard in the rooms). When the parade completed, the teams continued their EVP work and then switched rooms. Photographs were taken throughout the EVP sessions.
At approximately 10:00 it was decided that we'd exhausted investigation possibilities in the small space and to end the investigation and wrap up. Charley stayed in room 119 for that evening and reported no phenomena.
Initial Conclusions
Due to the nature of the electrical wiring in the building, it's very possible that many of the reported phenomena could be caused by EM fields. In addition, the mold smell in both rooms could also be having a hallucinatory or other effect on occupants. Photographs of the rooms yielded nothing of note. EVP recordings yielded nothing of note. However, one camera recording in room 119 did pick up the sounds experienced by Angela and Sean early in the investigation. The team in room 121 did not hear the sounds, and no other occupants were on that side of the building. A video and a transcript of what the voice is saying can be found below.
