Some researchers have suggested that naturally occurring electromagnetic fluctuations could be at the root of various paranormal manifestations.
Electrical sensitivity (ES) is a environmentally triggered illness that produces symptoms in the patient exposed to common levels of electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electrical sources in the environment: power lines, motors, computers, etc." Historically, ES was known as radiowave illness or microwave sickness.
Electrical sensitivity produces symptoms in certain people when exposed to common levels of electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electrical sources in the environment: power lines, motors, computers, etc. ES patients often are also MCS patients. Other at-risk groups for developing ES seem to be chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients and those experiencing mercury toxicity from dental amalgams.1 Because the nervous system is a primary site impacted by both chemicals and electromagnetic fields, those with nervous system damage from toxic exposures seem more susceptible to becoming ES too.2,3 Also, overexposure to EMF can singularly bring on ES, independent of other illness.

More severe reactions can include brief hallucinations, paralysis, psychosis and stroke. Some ES patients experience only one symptom when EMF exposed, but often more than one symptom is apparent.
A determination can be made on whither ES is the culprit of a paranormal episode by looking for any reported symptoms in the witnesses accounts and by searching the area where the incident occurred for high levels of EMF.
Electromagnetic frequency sensitivity testing can be done at a facility such as the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, Texas to determine if an individual has electrical (electromagnetic) sensitivity. An Electrical Sensitivity Diagnostic Kit may be helpful in determining which type of ES affects an individual (AC magnetic fields, electric fields only, or DC fields) by exposing the subject to one type of EMF at a time in order to analyze the cause of symptoms.
