Articles ~ Hypothesis and Science articles ~ Conducting Research

Perspective ghost hunters don't conduct research for one of three reasons.

(1) They think that research sounds like too much boring scientific work.
(2) They don’t know how or where to begin researching.
(3) They don’t understand that good research is easy to do and will aid in any investigation.

Newspapers should also have a research department. If you need structural records or names of past occupants you can
Check the local library, the town hall, or the county courthouse. Some people may feel intimidated about calling the courthouse or city hall because they're government run buildings, but that's exactly why they're there. Give them a call or visit and they will point you in the right direction. Another way to gain information may be through a title search company, however, they will charge you a fee. Of course, there's always the Internet. If you don't have access to an Internet connection you should be able to use a computer at your local library. Most are set up with Internet access for the public.

There are so many ghost hunters and skeptics that go into a ghost hunt without doing any research. They spend a couple days at the haunted location and nothing happens so they label the case a hoax. If they would have spent a couple hours researching they might have been able to turn up some useful information.

Maybe the ghost only appears on the anniversary of its death. If the ghost hunter or skeptic doesn't have that information, then of course they won't see or experience anything supernatural on a randomly chosen day. A good ghost hunter must try to determine what kind of ghost they are dealing with first through research so that they'll have a better change of experiencing the supernatural.
Research is key for any good ghost hunter.
